How Search Engines Actually Work
Googlebot, also called the ‘Google crawler’ visits a website several times a day
Crawlers are the programs that search engines use to scan and analyze your websites in order to determine what’s there and in turn evaluating it’s importance. This provides their ranking in the search results for certain keywords.
Crawlers are very active in order to properly scan the web for new content. Spiders often account for a great deal of the visitors to websites. Googlebot is much more active than other crawlers, the closest being the Yahoo crawler, which is about half as active.
How to Increase The Google Crawl Rate of your website:
- Update your site Content Regularly
Sites that update their content are more likely to get crawled frequently
- Create Sitemaps
Make your site be discovered faster by search engine bots.
- Avoid Duplicate Content
Search engines pick up on duplicate content. This can result in lowering your ranking.
- Site Loading Time
Mind your page load time
- Block access to unwanted pages
Edit your Robots.txt file to stop bots from crawling unwanted pages
- Use Ping services
Let bots know when your site content is updated.
- Interlink your blog pages
Help bots to effectively crawl deep pages on your site.
- Optimize Images
Use alt tags to provide a description that search engines can index.
